Lochmara Lodge
was built in 1997 by Marlborough locals, Shayne Olsen and
Louise Bright.
"In only a short time we have achieved
national and international recognition as being one of the
best places to stay in New Zealand.
"One aspect that has remained constant over
the past decade is our continued dedication towards art,
conservation and education as part of sustainable and
responsible tourism. In 2007 we established the Marlborough
Sounds Wildlife Recovery Centre and Arts Centre. These centres
allow us to continue our work in protecting our native
environment and providing opportunities for visitors to
experience New Zealand art by offering environmental tours.
The art and conservation activities undertaken by the Centres
are now an integral part of the Lodge which visitors can see
by visiting our New Zealand art galleries, bird and gecko
enclosures for New Zealand bird watching, and exploring the
Lodge and bushwalks.
"In the same year, we opened the Lochmara
Café with a focus on organic and local, offering a new choice
of restaurant for Marlborough and Picton. We also opened the
new chalet accommodation overlooking the Bay, bringing the
total number of units and chalets up to 14. Finally, we
developed a facility for conferences and workshops, and
established an education programme for school groups.
"Lochmara Lodge is still family owned and
operated accommodation, and we have a great team of kiwi and
overseas staff who are as passionate and dedicated as we are.
We look forward to welcoming you to our place."
